MUSCLE SHOALS, ALA. – Mars Hill senior golfer Adam Lumley completed the first round of the 2017 Southeast Regional in a tie for 10th place overall after firing an opening 18 score of 71 (-1). Lumley, fresh off being named the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golfer of the Year, is playing as an individual during the 54-hole event.
Lumley started his round off two straight pars before collecting a birdie on the par-4 third. Two more pars left him 1-under after five, but a bogey on six dropped Lumley back to even on the day. However, Lumley bounced back and collected birdies on two of the final three holes to close out the front side with a stellar two-under, 34.
After taking par on 10 and 11, Lumley hit his lone bump in the road with a double-bogey seven on the par-5, 12th. Dropping back to even for the round, Lumley finished the back nine with two birdies, three pars, and a bogey to cap his 71.
Lumley was able to establish such a great round after finishing in the top-5 in average scoring on par 4s, recording a 3.8 (-2) on the afternoon, while also collecting the third-most birdies on the afternoon (5). Lumley will continue his quest for a berth in the nationals, teeing off tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. on hole number 10.
