MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, October 05 at Meares Stadium. The Lions fall to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the SAC, while L-R improves to 7-3-1 overall and 4-2 in the league.
Both teams had an equal amount of opportunities in the first 45 minutes of play. In just the eighth minute Stian Sanner received a perfect ball in front of the net, but his header was pushed away by the L-R keeper to preserve the tie.
The Bears' offense was on attack regularly and in the 39th minute Ismael Noumansana put the visitors ahead 1-0 with goal off of a bad ball from the Lions. That lead would be carried into halftime.
A pair of goals by Noumansana in the 56th and 65th minutes of the second half inflated the Bears lead to 3-0. Mars Hill could not muster any offense for the remainder of the game, eventually falling by that same score.
Kristopher Wennin played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lions, allowing three goals, while collecting seven saves. The Bears outshot MHU by a total of 17-8 and the Lions held a 4-3 advantage on corners.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday, October 7 as they welcome Queens to Meares Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
