Mars Hill drops third straight in shutout against Lander

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill Lions women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest against Lander at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Tuesday night.

The Bearcats found themselves up 1-0 in the 17' minute with a goal from Sara Flores. Receiving a through pass in stride, Flores sped by the Lions' defenders and struck a low drive past the falling Kaitlyn Danglemaier for her fourth of the season.

Despite the Lions late charge in the final few minutes of regulation, they were unable to get a shot by Lander goalkeeper, Hannah Cowan, who only had to make one save on the night.

Danglemaier made four saves on the evening. Samantha Pyle had the lone shot directed at net for the Lions.

The Lions drop to 2-8-1 on the year while the Bearcats improve to 7-4 on the season.

Mars Hill returns to action on Friday, October 13 to square off against conference foe, Tusculum. The contest is set to start at 5 p.m.
