Mars Hill drops thrilling five-set contest

HARROGATE, Tenn. - Mars Hill dropped a thrilling five-set match (25-18, 19-25, 28-26, 27-29, 12-15) against King University to wrap up the Lincoln Memorial University Tournament Saturday afternoon.  Sally Anne Johnson matched her earlier output and headed the team with another eleven kills.

The Lions (1-2) took the first and third sets by scores of 25-18 and 28-26, respectively.  The Tornado bounced back and won the opposing sets 25-19 and 29-27.

In the final frame, both teams traded points in dramatic fashion.  The Tornado's Becca Huddleston led King on their final service of the night, knocking down two aces to bring the score to 14-11.  A kill by Maddie Spurgeon would break the run momentarily until on the next serve, Tristyn Lozano ended the match with a dominant kill placed in the far court.

Johnson and Spurgeon paced the Lions offense over the weekend with 28 and 27 kills, respectively.  Sarah Lorick added seven aces, Sarah Pasour led the team with 62 assists and leading the team in digs was Rebecca Butler with 55 over the weekend.

Mars Hill will make their 2017 home debut Thursday night when they take on Lincoln Memorial University at Stanford Arena.  The match is set to begin at 7 p.m
