Dozzi named to preseason All-SAC second team, Lions selected eighth
Mars Hill senior defender Kyle Dozzi was named to the 2019 preseason All-SAC second team while the Lions were selected eighth in the league's preseason poll, as announced Thursday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne has been picked to finish first in the South Atlantic Conference preseason men's lacrosse poll, which was announced by the conference office today. The League's head coaches gave the Bears seven first-place votes and a total of 71 points.
Wingate was voted No. 2 in the poll with 66 points and the three remaining first-place votes, while Queens was voted No. 3 with 56 points. Lincoln Memorial came in fourth with 52 points, and Catawba took the No. 5 spot with 40 points. Tusculum was voted No. 6 with 35 points and Coker was voted in at No. 7 with 32 points. Rounding out the poll was Mars Hill at No. 8 with 28 points and Newberry at No. 9 with 16 points.
The South Atlantic Conference also announced its preseason all-conference players. Joe Buduo from Lenoir-Rhyne, Kyle Arcuri from Lincoln Memorial, and Myles Moffat from Lenoir-Rhyne were named the first-team attackers.
Highlighting the midfield selections were first-teamers Eric Dickinson of Lenoir-Rhyne, Joe Barber of Catawba, and Conor Gronbach of Wingate.
Griffin Stechmiller of Queens was named the preseason first-team long pole midfielder, while teammates Nick Rizzieri and Ryon Bellamy were named first-team defenders. Also earning a preseason first-team honor at defense was Tyler Bane from Lenoir-Rhyne.
Queens's Drew Flack and Anthony Valenza were the final two first-team selections. Flack was named the team's specialist, while Valenza the goalie.
The 2018 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse schedule is set to get under on Saturday, Feb. 2. The 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship is scheduled for April 23, 26 and 28 with quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and finals at Wingate University.
