MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions lost to Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action, 1-0 Friday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 8-7 overall, 8-3 in the SAC. The Indians improved 6-9-2 on the season and 3-6-2 in the conference.
Michael Basnett scored the lone goal in the contest at the 73:59 mark. He found the back of the net from around 20 yards out after receiving a pass from Bradley Dowdall.
Mars Hill out shot Catawba, 24-8. The Lions edged the Indians in corner kicks, 6-2. Oliver Pannell played all 90 minutes in goal for MHU and made one save. Christian Watts also played the entire match in the net for Catawba and made five saves.
Before the match, Mars Hill recognized their five senior players. Ben Abbott, Tom Allison, Alex Mullen, Corey Roberts and Daniel Spurgin were honored for their service to the program.
The Lions will await the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Tournament pairings that will be released on Sunday. Mars Hill should host their first round match on Tuesday, November 4.
