Mars Hill Men's Cross Country with highest finish in seven years at the South Atlantic Conference Championship
The Mars Hill men's cross country team finished 7th out of 13 teams for their highest finish in seven years at the South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship.
NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's cross country team had their highest finish in seven years at the South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship by finishing a solid 7th of 13 teams. The race was hosted at The Farm in Newberry, South Carolina on Saturday morning over the 8k race distance.
On a true hilly and tough cross country race course, the Lions were led by freshman Brandon McNulty, who finished in 44th place with a time of 27:23. A tight pack of five guys followed close behind: Braxton Cummings in 48th with a time of 27:45, freshman Charles Fuerneisen in 49th with a new personal best time of 27:47, sophomore Brandon Wright in 51st with a time of 27:56, freshman Eli Taylor in 52nd with a time of 27:57, and freshman Matthew O'Connor in 56th with a time of 28:02.
Thoughts from Coach Benge:
"The 39 second gap from the first to the sixth runner on the team today is a great example of the pack-style training and racing we are building here at Mars Hill. It was a big improvement and great achievement for the guys to place 7th in our very competitive conference this year as this is our highest finish since 2017. I don't think the guys quite ran to their potential today, but everyone still had solid races to culminate in a solid team performance as the team continues to improve and build each year. We look forward to returning everyone next year to place even higher in the conference!"
