Mars Hill falls to Anderson on road

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (13-5, 7-3 SAC) was downed in straight sets against Anderson (21-2, 12-1 SAC) Tuesday evening on the road.

The Lions held a 10-9 lead in the first set before the Trojans reeled off 13 of the next 16 points to hold a 22-13 lead heading into the final moments of the set.  Mars Hill answered with six straight points, but were unable to close the gap any further as the Trojans took the final three points of the set to go up 1-0.

Early in the second frame, the Trojans took seven of the first eight points and built up a sizable lead.  They further extended their lead to double-digits by winning eight of the next 10 points and lead 17-5.  The teams traded points back and forth, but Anderson's large lead held true.

Mars Hill hung tough with the Trojans early in the third set, only trailing by one point, 8-7, before Anderson took the next six points to balloon their lead to 14-7. Anderson sealed the deal by winning the last eight points to close the Lions out in three sets.

Jayln Knight and Hailee Wilhelm led all players with 10 kills apiece. Emily Conlin had a game-high 29 assists and added nine digs.

Sally Anne Johnson, Elizabeth Kaeser and Maddie Spurgeon each had four kills for the Lions.  Ully Martins had a team-high 11 digs.

The Lions return to action on Friday, October 12 with a home contest against Coker.  First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
