Lions down Jaguars in game one of series
The Mars Hill baseball team (3-8) waxed the Jaguars of Augusta University (5-4) by a score of 8-2 on Friday afternoon in game one of a three-game series.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (3-8) waxed the Jaguars of Augusta University (5-4) by a score of 8-2 on Friday afternoon in game one of a three-game series.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead thanks to a two-run home run coming from the bat of Tyler Lala in the bottom of the first, plating Alex Naran. The Lions' offense didn't waste any time and put up four more runs in the bottom half of the second inning with runs coming from Chad Sikes, Kyle Jenkins, Chapel Matson and Scottie Lee.
The score would remain the same until the top half of the fifth, when Mason Robertson would score one of the Jaguars only two runs. In the bottom half of the eighth, the Lions would plate two more coming off a Lala double in the left center gap.
Andrew Hazell started the game on the mound for the Lions, throwing six full innings and earning the win. Mason Bernard took the loss for the Jaguars after giving up six runs on six hits in only 2.2 innings.
Game two of the series is set for February 19th at 11 a.m. at Don Henderson Field.
