Lions split Senior Day doubleheader against Bloomsburg
The Mars Hill baseball team (17-26, 9-11 SAC) split against Bloomsburg (21-13-1) on Senior Day on Friday afternoon at Henderson Field.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (17-26, 9-11 SAC) split against Bloomsburg (21-13-1) on Senior Day on Friday afternoon at Henderson Field.
Game One
Senior pitcher John Mark Pettit started on the bump for the Lions, throwing a pair of hitless innings for the Lions, striking out two, while Andrew Hazell entered the game in relief to throw four complete innings, allowing a single run on two hits, to earn the win. Barret Williams closed the game, earning his second save of the series.
In the bottom half of the first, Ruben Trillo put the Lions on the board with a single into left field that scored Alex Naran. The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth when Brady Gibble launched a solo shot to center field to tie the game.
In the bottom half of the sixth, with the game tied, bases loaded, and two outs on the board, Zach Weaver stepped to the plate and belted a three-run triple off the wall in right center to score Tanner Hodgson, Scottie Lee, and Trey Putnam. This proved to be the game-winning hit, as the Lions won by a score of 4-2.
Game Two
Bloomsburg won game two by a score of 7-4.
In the top of the first inning, Bloomsburg put three runs on the board due to back-to-back home runs from Kyle O'Fier and Ben Newbert. Down four in the bottom of the fourth, Jordan Lathe delivered a triple to right center, scoring Trillo and Tyler Lala to bring the deficit to two.
Bloomsburg responded by launching another pair of homers in the fifth, with O'Fier hitting his second off the day. In the final two innings of play, the Lions bounced back with a pair of home runs themselves, from Weaver and Paul Martin, but comeback efforts fell short.
AJ Chacon started the game for the Lions, throwing 1.1 innings and was given the loss. Bloomsburg's Jared Marshman threw four complete innings, earning the win.
The Lions recognized ten seniors (Tyler Lala, Ruben Trillo, Scottie Lee, Kyle Jenkins, AJ Chacon, Tanner Hodgson, Nick Von Tobel, Adam Plouffe, John-Mark Pettit, and Max Poole) prior to today's contests, as well as honorary senior, Jacob Legleiter.
The Lions are back in action on Tuesday, April 19, as the play Erskine in their final home game of 2022. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
