Ortiz Named National ASC Conference Swimmer of the Week
MARS HILL, N.C. – Freshman swimmer Erwin Ortiz of the Lions Men’s Swim Team has been named the Appalachian Swim Conference Male-Swimmer-of-the-Week.
MARS HILL, N.C. – Freshman swimmer Erwin Ortiz of the Lions Men's Swim Team has been named the Appalachian Swim Conference Male-Swimmer-of-the-Week. In addition to his third time earning the award, Ortiz was also named the CollegeSwimming Division II National ASC Swimmer-of-the-Week.
Ortiz continued what has become a stellar rookie campaign for the Blue and Gold, collecting four wins during the Lions dual meet with Milligan and Warren Wilson on Saturday, January 21. Ortiz captured crowns in the 100 free (48.25), 200 free (1:45.94), and 500 free (4:53.57), while also leading the 200 free relay team to first-place honors, pacing the Lions with a 22.23 lead-off lap.
Ortiz and the rest of the Lions will return to the pool on Saturday, January 28 as they host St. Andrews and UNC Pembroke. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. inside Harrell Pool.
