Men's Cross Country Rises to Second in USTFCCCA Regional Rankings
The Mars Hill men’s cross country team is ranked second in the Southeast Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, the organization announced Tuesday.
NEW ORLEANS, La.- The Mars Hill men's cross country team is ranked second in the Southeast Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Lions were ranked third in the region in the preseason poll and have had strong showings in their first two meets of 2014. Mars Hill won the season-opening Catawba Invitational and finished in seventh place at the Furman Invitational on September 13. Southeast Region leader Mount Olive was the only team to top the Lions on that Saturday as the Lions finished higher than NCAA Division I members Tulane, Western Carolina, College of Charleston and The Citadel. In addition, Mars Hill runners have won two of the first three AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week awards (Derek Gibson, September 10 and Alex Griggs, September 17.
Mars Hill returns to action on Friday afternoon at the UNC Charlotte Invitiational.
