MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (8-6-2, 5-5-1 SAC) defeated Limestone (5-5-5, 4-3-3 SAC) by a score of 3-2 in the 2022 regular season finale.
The Lions trailed 2-0 after 60 minutes of play. In the 62nd minute, Kevonte Willoughby-Williams broke the shutout bid, rocketing in a free kick from 20 yards out for his second of the season.
Less than two minutes later, Willoughby-Williams feathered a pass through the Limestone defense to the foot of Braxton Robinson who tied the game up with his third goal of the year.
With just 1:20 remaining in the contest, a quick throw in from Willoughby-Williams was directed to Jorge Perez Prada who dished the ball to a wide open Filip Jensen who buried the pass for his second of the season, proving to be the game winner.
Willoughby-Williams led all players with four points (1G, 2A).
In the 33rd minute, the Lions were called for a penalty, allowing Angelo Fabricio to net his 10th of the year, putting the Saints up 1-0. Just 2:10 into the second half, a free kick from Ruben Carvalho was put into the back of the net, doubling Limestone's lead.
Carvalho and Mark Radoki led all players with five shots apiece. Willoughby-Williams and Perez Prada led the Lions with four apiece.
James Price, in his first start with the Lions, picked up the win, stopping nine shots. Alfie Rule saved three shots in the losing effort.
Mars Hill qualified for the South Atlantic Conference for the third straight season, placing eighth overall. The Lions will take on Wingate on Saturday, October 29 at 4 p.m. on the road.
