Mars Hill defeats Southern Wesleyan in four
Lions win third in a row, defeat Warriors in four sets.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (10-11) defeated Southern Wesleyan (12-11) in four sets Friday evening inside Chambers Gymnasium.
After dropping the first set, Mars Hill roared through the next three, winning their third match in a row.
The second set saw the Lions hit .213 to the Warriors' .106 and in the third, Mars Hill held Southern Wesleyan to just eight kills and a -.056 hitting percentage.
The Lions closed out the fourth with 14 kills, once again holding the Warriors to a sub .100 hitting percentage (.019).
Three Lions recorded double-doubles on the night. Ioana Poenaru recorded 14 kills and 12 digs. Jenna Rosenbaum added 15 digs and 11 kills. Alyssa Kornegay collected 26 assists and 10 digs.
Brooke Hoffman led the team with five blocks while the trio of Skylar Ogden (2 BS, 2 BA), Selma Vassdal (1 BS, 3 BA) and Megan Lee Prezio (4 BA) each added four apiece.
Laela Jimenez led all players with 30 digs while adding five assists and one ace.
Mars Hill turns right around as on Saturday, November 8, they return to South Atlantic Conference play, hosting Carson-Newman. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
