WILSON, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (2-2) defeated Barton (1-2) on the road by a score of 11-10 Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions reeled off the first four goals of the game in a span of 5:46. Sam Arendt, Brandon Woodward, Cole Ross, and Josh McCallion each struck for Mars Hill. Austin Stroud and Mason Mehsikomer earned assists on the first and fourth goals scored, respectively.
The Lions put up another four in the second quarter as McCallion and Woodward each netted two, completing their respective hat-tricks. Arendt assisted on McCallion's third of the game while Aiden Fera assisted on Woodward's third tally.
Barton responded in the second half, outscoring Mars Hill 7-3, including four goals in the third. Stroud and Ross recorded the Mars Hill goals in the penultimate period while Ross' third of the game in the fourth quarter proved to be the eventual game-winning goal.
The trio of McCallion, Ross, and Woodward led the Lions with three points (3g) apiece. Arendt and Stroud ended the contest with two points (1g, 1a) each.
Shane Hecht stopped 11 shots en route to his second win of the season.
Mars Hill returns home on Saturday, February 22 when they face Malone in non-conference action. First faceoff inside Meares Stadium is set for 12 p.m.
