Lions excel at Finn Pincus Invitational
SALEM, Va. - The Mars Hill men's indoor track & field team traveled to Salem, Virginia to compete in the Finn Pincus Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. The two-day meet yielded much success for the Lions from personal bests, first place finishes, and an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark met by Jesse Shelton in Shot Put.
Day 1 Highlights
Lucas New competed in High Jump, placing third overall with a jump of 1.93m. New currently ranks sixth overall in South Atlantic Conference standings. New competed in the 60m dash, placing 68th overall with a time of 7.56s.
Aiden Burton placed 34th overall in the 60m dash, finishing with a time of 7.22s.
Ryder Bush-Ivanko set a new personal best in the 60m dash, finishing with a time of 7.47s.
Levi Hill competed in the 60m hurdles. Hill placed 13th overall with a time of 9.05s.
Brett Cram and Mason Smith both established personal bests in the 600m run. Cram placed 14th overall with a time of 1:36.42. Smith placed 15th overall with a time of 1:36.74.
Brandon McNulty placed seventh overall in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 9:16.46.
Sean Sanchez placed 10th overall in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 9:19.67. Eli Taylor placed 15th overall in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 9:28.31. Sawyer Cripps placed 18th overall in the 3000m run with a time of 9:35.26. Matthew O'Connor placed 19th overall in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 9:40.58. Charles Fuerneisen placed 23rd overall in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 9:52.38. Luke Capps placed 30th overall in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 10:18.98.
Day 2 Highlights
Jesse Shelton competed in both Shot Put and Weight Throw. Shelton placed second in Shot Put with a throw of 17.29m. Shelton currently ranks 10th in NCAA DII with his throw. Shelton picked up an event win in the Weight Throw with a throw of 16.33m. Shelton currently ranks first in the SAC in both Shot Put and Weight Throw.
Ashtin Gainey placed ninth in Shot Put with a personal best throw of 14.15m Gainey currently ranks fifth overall in the South Atlantic Conference.
Justus Shelton placed 10th in Shot Put with a throw of 13.79m. Shelton ranks sixth overall in the South Atlantic Conference. Shelton placed 20th in the Weight Throw with a throw of 13.17m.
Will Wainwright set personal bests in both Shot Put and the Weight Throw. Wainwright placed 11th in Shot Put with a throw of 13.45m and 23rd in Weight Throw with a throw of 12.84m. Wainwright currently ranks eighth overall in Shot Put in the South Atlantic Conference.
Iggy Welch set personal bests in both Shot Put and the Weight Throw. Welch threw 11.8m in Shot Put and 12.53m in the Weight Throw.
Jared Benain set a new personal best in Long Jump with a jump of 6.89m. Benain placed fourth overall in the event and currently ranks sixth in South Atlantic Conference standings.
Hank Bowen placed 36th overall in Long Jump with a jump of 5.63m.
Connor Cecil competed in the 400m and 200m sprints. Cecil finished with a time of 56.57s in the 400m, placing 42nd overall. Cecil placed 67th overall in the 200m with a time of 25.26s.
Justin Kwakye placed 58th overall in the 200m sprint with a time of 24.81.

Sean Sanchez placed 18th overall in the Mile with a time of 4:42.92. Brandon McNulty placed 23rd with a time of 4:46.8. Matthew O'Connor placed 25th with a time of 4:48.95. Eli Taylor placed 29th with a time of 4:51.25. Sawyer placed 36th with a time of 4:58.93. Luke Capps placed 43rd with a time of 5:07.3
Brett Cram and Mason Smith both competed in the 1000m run. Cram placed 12th overall with a time of 2:54.81. Smith finished in 13th with a time of 3:08.03.
The Lions return to Roanoke College on January 31st-February 1st to compete in the Bast Creggar Multi.
