MEET RECAP: Catamount Classic
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the Cullowhee Classic, hosted by Western Carolina University this past Friday and Saturday.
MEN'S RECAP
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
In the Field
Jesse Shelton advanced to finals in Hammer, placing fifth overall with a mark of 48.62m
On the Track
Brandon McNulty placed 39th in the 1500m run with a time of 4:22.58.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
On the Track
Men's 4x100 - Aiden Burton, Hunter Philyaw, Justin Kwakye, and Malik Laurent placed fourth with a season best time of 42.22s
Connor Cecil placed 14th in the 400m with a time of 54.57s.
Sean Sanchez, in the 800m, ran a personal best 2:02.81. Aizen Bell ran a time of 2:06.56 and Grant Richardson turned in his collegiate best with a time of 2:10.53.
Braxton Cummings, in the 3000m steeplechase, finished 11th with a personal best of 10:24.7. Brandon McNulty established a collegiate best of 10:34.69. Mason Smith ran a personal best of 11:38.24.
In the Field
Jared Benain advanced to the finals in the Triple Jump, placing third overall with a jump of 14.00m.
Jesse Shelton won the Shot Put with a throw of 17.36m. He placed second in the Discus with a throw of 48.33m
Iggy Welch, in the Shot Put, threw a personal best 14.52m, placing ninth overall. He also established a personal best in Discus with a throw of 43.29m, finishing in seventh place.
Ashtin Gainey, in the Shot Put, placed 10th with a throw of 14.08m. In the Discus, he threw a personal best 41.36m, placing 10th.
Makhi Edgecombe, in the Shot Put, threw a season best 11.75m. In the Discus, he placed 23rd with throw of 35.41m
Hank Bowen, in the High Jump, placed 10th with a season best jump of 1.77m
WOMEN'S RECAP
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
Alina Mueller placed eighth in Javelin with throw of 30.73m and ran a personal best in 100m hurdles with time of 16.47s, finishing 17th overall. She recorded a season best in Long Jump with a jump of 4.84m, placing 14th overall.
Jimena Montero recorded personal bests in the Long Jump and Javelin. She established a collegiate best in the 200m sprint with a time of 27.23s.
Haley Eddinger placed seventh in pole vault with a vault of 3.25m.
Sarah McNeil placed 28th in the 1500m run with a time of 5:47.77.
Jenna Grabowski ran a personal best 5:54.10 in the 1500m run. Grabowski placed 30th overall.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
On the track
Natalee Powers, in the 800m run, set a new school record with a time of 2:21.53, placing 11th overall.
Simone Giggetts placed seventh in the finals of 100m Hurdles with time of 14.79s.
Fernanda Osuna, in the 3000m Steeplechase, placed fourth with a time of 14:08.76.
In the field
Cierra Williams placed 15th in the Discus with throw of 35.07m. She finished 13th in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.19m.
La'Miya Blake finished in 18th place in the Discus with a throw of 33.43m. She placed 22nd overall in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.77m.
