Lions win two events at Montreat Open
Sophie Ratcliff and Cierra Williams earn event wins for Lions.
BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's outdoor track & field team traveled to Black Mountain, North Carolina over the weekend to compete in the Montreat Open hosted by Montreat College. The meet took place over two days. The Lions captured two event wins over the weekend, broke one school record, had several top 8 finishes, and personal bests
Event Wins
Sophie Ratcliff crossed the line first in the 10000m run with a time of 39:14.98. Ratcliff ranks 1st in Conference standings at the present.
Cierra Williams captured 1st in the Discus throw with a mark of 41.65m. Williams ranks 1st in Conference Standings at the present.
In the Field
Kennadi Hale kicked off the field events for the ladies with Javelin. Hale placed 2nd overall with a Personal Best 30.69m. Hale ranks 2nd in Conference standings at this time.
Three Ladies broke the school records in the Hammer throw. Faith Woodard broke the record on her first throw of competition with a mark of 38.19m. Cierra Williams threw 39.35m on her first to break the record again. She followed that up with a 41.95m throw on her 2nd, which remained her best on the day. Kayla Rice established a new school record on her 3rd throw, and again on her final throw of competition, 43.18m. Rice placed 2nd overall. Williams placed 3rd overall, and Woodard placed 8th. Kayla Rice currently ranks 1st in Conference standings in the event. Williams ranks 3rd.
Charley Seagle established a personal best 38.2m in the Hammer throw on her 2nd throw of competition. Seagle placed 7th overall. On day two of competition, Seagle placed 2nd behind Williams in Discus with a personal best 40.01m.
Jimena Montero threw a new personal best 25.16m in Javelin, placing 8th overall.
Cierra Williams placed 2nd in Shot Put with a personal best 12.8m on her first throw of competition.
Charley Seagle placed 5th in Shot Put with a throw of 10.57m.
Faith Woodard established a personal best 32.11m in Discus, placing 8th overall.
On the Track
Natalie Freise established a new personal best 1:02.53 in the 400m, placing 4th overall on the day.
Natalee Powers placed 3rd in the 1500m run with a personal best 4:51.40. while Sophie Ratcliff placed 5th in the 1500m run with a time of 4:55.35.
Mary Malcolm finished 7th overall in the 1500m run with a time of 5:02.04. Lola Korth finished with a personal best 5:05.44 in the 1500m run, placing 9th overall.
Jimena Montero placed 9th in the 200m sprint with a time of 27.24s.
Louise Borgudd placed 3rd in the 10000m run with a personal best 40:49.63. Natalee Powers placed 4th with a time of 40:50.26. Mary Malcom 5th with a time of 41:15.63. Grace Adams placed 6th with a time of 42:58.18.
