MEET RECAP: King Invite
Two school records broken, along with four total event wins.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Mars Hill men's and women's outdoor track & field teams partook in the 2nd Annual King Invite over March 27-28, held at King University.
MEN'S RECAP
Highlights: A new school record set, an event win captured, and several top 8 finishers throughout the meet.
New School Record
Luke New set a new school record in the men's Decathlon with a combined score of 5,861pts. New competed in 10 events. Day 1 consisted of the 100m (11.9s), Long Jump (6.24m), Shot Put (10.26m), High Jump (1.83m), 400m (53.77). Day 2 consisted of the 110H (16.59s), Discus (28.99m), Pole Vault (4.3m), Javelin (47.38m), and the 1500m run (5:33.33). New set personal bests in the 110m Hurdles and Discus. New placed 2nd overall and currently ranks 1st in South Atlantic Conference Standings.
Event Win
Justin Owens placed 1st in the 3000m Steeplechase with a personal best run of 10:02.30. Owens set a new meet record.
In the Field
Jack Zalevskiy had a great meet, setting personal bests in both the Hammer Throw and Discus. Zalevskiy placed 4th in Hammer with a throw of 45.49m. He ranks 6th in Conference Standings. In Discus, Zalevskiy placed 6t h with a throw of 40.74m.
Preston Wright set personal bests in two of his events – Shot Put and Discus. Wright placed 6th in Shot Put with a throw of 12.48m and 16th in Discus with a throw of 35.57m.
Hank Bowen placed 10th in Long Jump with a season best 6.05m.
On the Track
Eli Taylor placed 2nd in the 3000m Steeplechase with a personal best time of 10:14.99. Taylor competed in the 800m run as well, placing 24th overall with a personal best 2:06.59.
Brett Cram placed 3rd in the 3000m Steeplechase with a personal best 10:21.79. Cram ran a personal best 2:05.67 in the 800m run, placing 20th overall.
Aiden Burton placed 10th in the 100m sprint with a personal best 10.94s.
Justin Kwakye placed 13th in the 100m sprint with a personal best 11.04s.
DJ Chadwell placed 2nd in the 1500m run with a personal best 4:00.98. Chadwell placed 4th in the 800m run with a personal best 1:57.43.
Matthew O'Connor placed 7th in the 1500m run with a personal best 4:07.68. O'Connor placed 8th in the 800m run with a personal best, 2:00.40.
Brandon McNulty placed 8th in the 1500m run with a personal best 4:13.03
Connor Cecil placed 8th in the 400m run with a time of 52.15s. Cecil placed 17th in the 800m run with a personal best 2:03.66.
Charles Fuerneisen placed 13th in the 800m run with a personal best 2:02.37.
Justin Owens ran a personal best 2:06.12 in the 800m run, placing 21st overall.
Grant Richardson placed 22nd in the 800m run with a time personal best 2:06.19.
Luke Capps placed 26th in the 800m run with a personal best 2:09.04.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Highlights: A new school record set, three event wins captured, and several top 8 finishers throughout the meet.
New School Record/Event Wins
Natalee Powers placed 1st in the 800m run with a New School Record time of 2:19.05. Powers ranks 7th in Conference Standings.
Cierra Williams placed 1st in Discus with a throw of 36.08m.
Louise Borgudd placed 1st in the 5000m run with a time of 19:48.58.
In the Field
Natalie Freise placed 7th in Long Jump with a personal best 5.02m.
Kayla Rice placed 3rd in Hammer Throw with a mark of 41.11m.
Cierra Williams placed 8th in Hammer Throw with a mark of 38.22m.
Kennadi Hale placed 3rd in Javelin with a throw of 25.28m. Hale placed 9th in Discus with a personal best 29.72m.
Jimena Montero competed in the Heptathlon, comprised of the 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, 200m run, Long Jump, and Javelin. Montero placed 4th overall with a combined score of 2,749pts.
On the Track
Sophie Ratcliff placed 4th in the 1500m run with a personal best 4:52.73.
Mary Malcolm placed 7th in the 1500m run with a personal best 4:58.74. Malcolm set personal bests in both the 800m (2:27.61) and 400m (1:04.78) as well.
Lola Korth placed 9th in the 1500m run with a personal best 5:02.69. Korth competed in the 800m run as well, finishing with a personal best 2:29.19.
Alleigh Flewwellin placed 13th in the 1500m run with a personal best 5:11.04
Natalee Powers placed 4th in the 400m run with a time of 1:00.73.
Natalie Freise placed 5th in the 400m run with a personal best 1:01.56.
