Wainwright wins Javelin, Lions place 8th at SAC Championships
EMORY, Va. - The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team traveled to Emory, Virginia to compete in the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Mars Hill finished 8th overall with a team score of 38 points.
The team battled rain all day on day one and cold temperature and high winds the majority of day two making it challenging for all the competitors.
Champion
Will Wainwright placed 1st in Javelin with a throw of 55.66m. Wainwright earned 10 points towards the team score.
Podium Finishes
Wainwright found the podium in discus. Wainwright placed 3rd in Discus with a throw of 46.09m, earning 6 points towards the team score.
Iggy Welch placed 2nd in Shot put with a throw of 15.04m. Welch earned 8 points towards the team score.
Point Scorers
On day one, Levi Hill placed 8th in the prelims of the 110m Hurdles with a time 14.98s. The finals took place on day two. Hill placed 6th in the finals with the same time, 14.98s. Hill earned 3 points towards the team score.
The men's 4x100m relay, comprised of Aiden Burton, Hunter Philyaw, Connor Cecil, and Justin Kwakye, placed 8th with a season best 42.8s, earning 1 point toward the team score.
Jack Zalevskiy placed 6th in Discus with a throw of 46.09m. Zalevskiy earned 3 points towards the team score. Zalevskiy competed in Hammer and Shot Put as well, placing 10th in Hammer with a throw of 44.42m and 23rd in Shot Put with a season best 11.83m.
Wainwright's 3rd event, shot put, resulted in a 6th place finish with a throw of 13.9m. Wainwright earned 3 points towards the team score.
Luke New competed in the decathlon. New placed 5th overall in the event with a combined score of 5,417pts. New earned 4 points towards the overall team score. New set personal bests in three events – the 110m Hurdles (15.98s), Discus (32.63m), and Javelin (47.78m), and the 1500m run (5:16.41). New earned 4 points towards the team score.

On the Track
DJ Chadwell placed 8th in the 1500m prelim with a time of 4:03.15. Chadwell qualified for the finals held on day two. He placed 9th with a personal best 4:01.45.
Aiden Burton competed in the 100m sprint, finishing with a new personal best 10.87s. Justin Kwakye competed in the 100m and 200m sprint, setting personal bests in both events. In the 100m, Kwakye finished in 10.89s. In the 200m, he finished in a time of 22.24s.
Hunter Philyaw competed in the 200m sprints, finishing with a season best 22.38s.
Justin Owens placed 11th in the 10000m run with a time of 33:01.28. Owens competed in the 5000m run as well, placing 11th with a season best 15:26.
Charles Fuerneisen placed 15th in the 1500m prelims with a time of 4:10.25. Fuerneisen placed 22nd in the 5000m run with a time of 16:13.19. Brandon McNulty placed 18th in the 1500m prelims with a time of 4:13.20.
Mason Smith competed in the 3000m Steeple, placing 19th with a time of 11:27.78.
Eli Taylor placed 15th in the 5000m run with a time of 15:37.47. Brett Cram placed 21st in the 500m run with a time of 16:01.07.
In the Field
Preston Wright earned a trip to the finals in Hammer with a personal best 44.81m. Wright placed 9th overall. Wright competed in Discus and Shot Put as well, placing 27th in Discus with a throw of 31.41m and 20th in Shot Put with a throw of 12.10m.
Iggy Welch competed in Discus and Hammer. Welch placed 14th in Discus with a throw of 40.05m and 17th in Hammer with a throw of 40.84m.
Hank Bowen competed in Long Jump, placing 28th with a jump of 5.89m.
Brennon Craig placed 17th in Javelin with a throw of 37.54m.
