Lions set new program best, defeat King

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (5-0) defeated King (0-6) by a score of 88-78 Sunday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions start 5-0 for the first time in program history.
The Lions carried a 46-43 lead going into the half, shooting 46 percent from the floor. Keenan Wilkins led all players with 13 points in the half, including a streak of 11 straight in the opening minutes of the contest. Marvin Hires added nine while the duo of Jaylen Bates and Jaheim Taylor each netted seven.
Aljaz Vidmar led the Lions with four rebounds while Wilkins led the team with three steals.
In the second half, Taylor took over the game, scoring 14 points, going 7-of-8 from the line. Ashton Troutman netted nine, including two three-pointers while pulling down a team-high six rebounds in the half.
Taylor led all players with 21 points, adding a team-high five assists. Wilkins ended the contest with 16 points and a team-high four steals. Hires added 13 points while Troutman ended the day with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Lions open South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday, December 3 when they face Newberry, capping off their six-game homestand to open the season. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
