Mars Hill defeats Wingate in pivotal SAC matchup
WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (9-5, 3-5 SAC) defeated Wingate (7-7, 2-6 SAC) by a score of 70-64 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Lions led 38-34 after the first 20 minutes of play. Both Christian Foy and Keenan Wilkins netted three three pointers apiece, leading the team with nine points aside. Wilkins, who went 3-for-3 in the half, also led the team with three assists. Marvin Hires added seven points from the bench while the duo of Gabe Erbeck and Carson Evans led Mars Hill with three rebounds.
The team shot nearly 61 percent from the floor and went 9-of-15 from beyond the arc, hitting 60 percent of their attempts.
Wilkins scored an additional 10 points in the second half to secure the win for the Lions. Foy added five, while Hires and Alejandro Ford each scored four points.
Wilkins led the Lions with 19 points and four rebounds. Foy ended the night with 14 points followed by 11 from Hires. The trio of Wilkins, Evans, and Jaheim Taylor led the Lions with three assists while Ashton Troutman tied Wilkins for the team lead with four rebounds.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, January 14 when they face Emory & Henry on the road. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
