Lions split in first home meet of the year
Mars Hill defeated Belmont Abbey, but fell to Lander in their first home meet of 2026.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (1-2) split their first tri-meet of the year, defeating Belmont Abbey (0-3), but falling to Lander (2-1) Friday evening.
Lander scored 253.995 on the night, followed by the Lions' 237.835 with Belmont Abbey closing out the meet with a score of 231.945.
The Bearcats took the compulsory event, recording nines in every heat, highlighted by a 9.80 in the toss. In the acro event, Mars Hill edged Lander 27.45-27.00. The Lions recorded two 9.30 out of the three heats.
Out of 29.80 possible points in the pyramid event, Lander recorded a 29.00 to further their lead heading into the half.

The Lions were narrowly outscored in the toss heat, 26.55-26.35, by Lander. The team recorded two 8.70 along with an 8.95.
Lander continued to roll throughout the tumbling event, taking five of the six heats. They capped off the night with the highest score in the team event with an 81.37.
The Lions return to the mats on Wednesday, March 18 when they take on Converse and Newberry at Newberry. The meet is set for a 5 p.m. start.
