Lions cruise to Senior Day win over FMU
Lions secure #5 seed in Conference Carolinas Tournament; will face #4 Coker on Tuesday, April 7.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (5-3) defeated Francis Marion (0-8) in their final regular season meet of the year by a score of 246.025-225.115 Thursday evening inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead, taking the Compulsory Event by a score of 35.00-28.95. In a closer contested Acro Event, the Lions still were able to add to their lead, totaling 26.15 points out of a potential 30.00.
Heading into the half, Mars Hill tacked on an extra two points to their lead in the Pyramid Event, highlighted by the open heat score of a 9.95, tying a program-record.
The Patriots fell just 0.80 shy of tying Mars Hill in the Toss Event, scoring 26.20 and taking the open heat by a score of 9.15-9.10.
Mars Hill, in the Tumbling Event, took five of the six heats, highlighted by the 9.0 six-element pass of Soraya Rostocil. Closing out the meet, the Lions scored 80.80 in the team event to secure the Senior Day win and the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas tournament, where they will face Coker at Coker University.
At the conclusion of the Team Event, Mars Hill seniors Kerry Hampson and Lia Whitman were recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the program.
