MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (1-1) defeated Young Harris (0-3) by a score of 13-10 Wednesday afternoon inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
The Lions trailed by one entering the second half, but a five-goal third quarter led them to their first win of the season.
After Gunnar Fagerstrom put Young Harris up by two, Mars Hill reeled off five straight tallies in a span of 9:41 to enter the fourth quarter up 10-7. Jake Mannix struck twice while Dillon Buran, Sam Arendt, and Aiden McNamara netted the other three goals. Both Mason Mehsikomer and Javonte Tiller picked up assists in the frame.
The teams traded three goals aside in the fourth was Luke Moore scored twice for the Lions followed by one goal off the stick of Ben Hokenson. McNamara and Caleb Nelson were credited with assists in the quarter.
Both Mannix and Moore recorded hat-tricks for the Lions with Mannix leading all players with four points (3G, 1A). McNamara (2G, 1A) and Nelson (1G, 2A) also ended the night with three points.
Xavier Wells made nine stops for the win.
The Lions take to the road on Wednesday, February 18 when they face Montevallo. Faceoff is set for a 4 p.m. start.
