MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (1-4, 0-1 SAC) was defeated by No. 5 Anderson (5-0, 1-0 SAC) in their South Atlantic Conference opener Wednesday afternoon inside Meares Stadium.
Tied at four after the first quarter, Mars Hill struck just 47 seconds into the second to go up 5-4; the goal coming from the stick of Luke Moore. Anderson then reeled off six straight goals to end the half, up 10-5 after 30 minutes of play.
The momentum continued for the Trojans, going on to score the first five goals of the third quarter, building their lead into the double-digits. The Lions scored three in the frame with goals from Moore, James Hartley, and Tyler Nadalin.
Anderson closed out the contest scoring five of the six fourth quarter goals. Landis Pritchard recorded the lone Mars Hill goal.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the first quarter, less than a minute in as Cross McKinney tallied. A minute later, Hudson Semple struck to put the Lions up by two. The teams battled to a 4-4 draw after the opening 15 minutes with the additional Mars Hill goals coming from Dillon Buran and Ben Hokenson.
Brodie Deutsch led all players with six points (4G, 2A) followed by five (2G, 3A) from Cole Sparks. Cooper Laughlin (3G, 1A) and Matthew Rodgers (1G, 3A) each added four points on the day.
Caleb Nelson (3A) led the Lions with three assists. Moore (2G) and Buran (1G, 1A) ended the day with two points apiece.
Adin Laughlin stopped three shots for his fifth win of the season. Xavier Wells made a career-high 22 saves in just over 51 minutes played.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, March 7 when they host Lees-McRae in non-conference play. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m. inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
