Women's Track Looks to Continue Record-Setting Season at SAC Championship
Mars Hill has set school records in six events
MARS HILL, N.C. - After an outdoor season that has seen new school records in six events, the Mars Hill women's track team heads to this weekend's South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship in search of their first team title.
The new records have been set in the 4X1500 relay, English Mile (Megan Smith), 5000 meter run (Jessica Viscusi), hammer throw (Aiyana Chin), 3,000 meter steeplechase (Jessica Viscusi) and 100 meter dash (Alexis Montgomery).
Viscusi and Faith Trammell became the first runners in school history to finish in the 17 minute bracket in the 1500 meter run at the Charlotte 49er Invitational. Viscusi finished with a time of 17:44.26, with Trammell crossing the finish line in 17:55.40. Last weekend at the Tennessee Relays, Viscusi set a new school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 11:12.53.
Chin has set a new school record in the Hammer throw in each of the past two meets, with the current record being a throw of 35.70 meters. Montgomery set a new mark in the 100 meter dash as she finished in 12.21.
Megan Smith opened the outdoor season with a new school record in the English Mile at the Brevard Relays as she finished in 5:46.18. At the same event, the quartet of Jessica Viscusi, Vanessa Viscusi, Faith Trammell and Smith finished the 4x1500 meter relay in 21:04.
The Lions have had several personal records this season in sprint, distance and field events in addition to the school records.
The South Atlantic Conference Championship kicks off on Friday at Lenoir-Rhyne.
