BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (1-2) was defeated by Lees-McRae (1-2) by a score of 2-0 Wednesday evening on the road.
In the 27th minute, the Bobcats broke the scoreless deadlock as Jordan Bartlinski netted her first of the season. Late in the half, Mia Zulueta tucked home a pass from Peyton Coggins to double the Lees-McRae lead.
The trio of Allie Kirkpatrick, Mia Calderon, and Delaney Griffin each launched shots at Laura Walker in the half.
Lees-McRae controlled the second half, outshooting Mars Hill 9-0 to hold on to the lead and secure the win.
Zulueta led all players with four shot attempts, three on target, followed by two from Bartlinski.
Peyton Pierson stopped a career-high eight shots in goal.
Mars Hill returns home on Sunday, September 14 when they open South Atlantic Conference play against Newberry. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
