MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (1-11-1) drew 1-1 against USC Beaufort (9-5-3) Tuesday afternoon in their home finale.
The Lions were outshot 7-6 in the scoreless first half with Delaney Griffin and Sophia Appello leading the team with two shots apiece. Late in the frame, it appeared that Mars Hill had broken through with a shot on net by Francesca Graff, however, the flag was lifted on the far side, signaling offside.
After being award a free kick just outside the box, a gentle back pass off the heel of Griffin was blasted home by Mia Calderon, netting her first goal of her Mars Hill career in the 65th minute.
The Sand Sharks would respond in the 78th minute as Maggie Olsen scored her third off the season, following a rebound off of a corner.
Peyton Pierson made nine stops for the Lions.
Mars Hill closes out the regular season on the road versus Coker on Saturday, November 1. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
