HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (24-6, 5-1 SAC) swept Coker (10-14, 2-4 SAC) Saturday afternoon on the road.
GAME ONE: MHU 9, COKER 2
The offense was consistent for Mars Hill in game one, scoring at least one run in six of the seven innings played.
Bri Weimer collected two RBI in the second frame with a single to center to put the Lions up 3-0 after two. In the third and fourth, RBI doubles from Camryn Sterling and Maia Sholter--her second of the contest--extended the Lions lead to six.
The Lions built an eight-run lead in the fifth with RBI singles off the bats of Sara Rexrode and Sadie Cecil.
Sholter and Sterling led the Lions with two hits apiece as the team totaled 10 on the day.
Kamryn Akins moves to 10-1, allowing just five hits while striking out eight for the win.
GAME TWO: MHU 8, COKER 5
Mars Hill scored their eight runs between the fourth and sixth innings, clinching their second straight South Atlantic Conference sweep.
Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth, Sara Rexrode's sacrifice fly that plated Maia Sholter broke the shutout bid. The Lions then tied the game with a RBI double off the bat of Daci Sarver. A Coker wild pitch allowed the Lions to take the lead as Leah Grimes crossed home.
In the fifth, the Lions plated four, highlighted by Rexrode's two-run triple.
Sholter and Camryn Sterling once again led the Lions with two hits apiece while Rexrode led all players with three RBI.
Blyth Freeman earned the win, allowing three earned runs in the contest, striking out two.
The Lions return to the diamond on Saturday, March 28 when they face Carson-Newman on the road. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
