HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill softball team ended their season in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, falling to Lincoln Memorial on both Friday and Saturday.
GAME ONE: LMU 7, MHU 6
A late Mars Hill rally was thrwarted in the top of the seventh. With runners on second and third and two outs, a hard hit drive to right field was snagged by Cassidy Hack, preserving the one-run lead and securing the game one win.
The Railsplitters jumped out to a 3-1 run lead after one, taking advantage of a couple Lions' pitching miscues. Jessica Senn opened the scoring with a RBI double in the first.
In the third, trailing 4-1, Bri Weimer pulled the Lions within two with a solo home run. In the bottom of the fourth, Kristin Griffin build the three-run lead back up for Lincoln Memorial with a RBI triple.
Sadie Cecil, in the top of the sixth, pulled Mars Hill within one with a two-run single, scoring Riley Waters and Daci Sarver. Griffin, again, came up clutch for the Railsplitters with a RBI single to pad their lead to two. Later in the frame, Hannah McMeen collected her third RBI and second double of the game to go into the seventh up 7-4.
The Lions plated two in the top of the seventh off of a Lincoln Memorial error, followed by a RBI groundout by Waters.
Griffin and McMeen combined to go 6-for-8 with five RBI while Reese Vivrette and Hanna Bogoski added two hits apiece.
Weimer, Leah Grimes, and Brooke Hanson led the Lions with two hits apiece while Cecil led the team with two RBI.
Brooke Strickland earned the win, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits. Katie Fultz picked up her third save of the year, allowing two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings thrown.
GAME TWO: LMU 13, MHU 0 - 5 Innings
Lincoln Memorial clinched the series with an emphatic 13-run, 11-hit outing, shutting out the Lions.
Reese Vivrette led all players with three hits, scoring three runs. Kristin Griffin and Jordann Reagan each added two hits apiece.
Six Railsplitters recorded two RBI on the day.
Bri Weimer recorded the lone hit for Mars Hill in the contest.
Jasmine Kaylor allowed just one hit in the complete game shutout.
