Mars Hill splits Saturday set, wins weekend series over LMU
Lions take games one and three versus Railsplitters.

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill baseball team (6-11, 4-5 SAC) won the weekend series over Lincoln Memorial (10-8, 5-4 SAC), taking games one and three on the road.
GAME ONE: MHU 4, LMU 1
The Lions started the weekend strong, taking down Lincoln Memorial by a score of 4-1.
Austin Kutz was instrumental on the mound, throwing seven solid innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out four. Relievers Seth Coxie and Brady Stephens combined for two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.
Tied at one entering the fifth, Mars Hill struck twice. Mel Rubiera reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, allowing Alejandro Aguilar to score the go-ahead run. Gavyn Miller's sacrifice fly later in the frame plated Carter Potts to put the Lions up by two.
Capping off the scoring in the top of the seventh was Chapel Matson, who scored Rubiera off of a RBI double.
Potts opened the scoring in the third with a RBI single to right.
Aguilar, Potts, and Miller led the Lions with two hits apiece while the quartet of Potts, Rubiera, Matson, and Miller each recorded a RBI.
GAME TWO: LMU 7, MHU 6
The Railsplitters took game two to even the series, walking off the game with a single to center.
The Lions played catch-up all contest. Despite opening the scoring with a solo home run from Alejandro Aguilar, the Lions battled in the fourth to tie the game at two, the sixth to tie the game at three, and then in the top of the ninth, tying the game at six.
During that run, Evan Ashe collected three RBI while a Lincoln Memorial error in the ninth allowed Mars Hill to knot the game.
Ashe led all players with three RBI while Gavyn Miller went 3-for-4 from the plate; a home run shy of the cycle. Aguilar and Ashe added two hits apiece.
GAME THREE: MHU 9, LMU 3
The Lions' bats came alive in the series finale, racking up nine runs on 15 hits to clinch the series.
Yeriel Pastrana went 4-for-4 while Carter Potts went 3-for-4, each posting one RBI. Mel Rubiera added two hits with a game-high three RBI. Colin Holmes added two RBI off of a first inning and Chapel Matson ended the game with two hits and one RBI.
Jacob Davis picked up his second win of the season, throwing 4.2 innings, striking out five while allowing two runs on five hits. Brady Stephens closed out the contest, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing just two hits.
Mars Hill returns home to Henderson Field on Tuesday, March 3 when they host Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
