SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (26-25-1) concluded their 2026 season, dropping games versus Lincoln Memorial (29-21) and Coker (16-33), both by scores of 4-2.
GAME ONE: LMU 4, MHU 2
The Railsplitters scored four unanswered runs to take Friday's first game.
Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth, Alex Kowalski's two-run home run tied the contest. In the fifth, Ayden Jackson's RBI single put the Railsplitters up 3-2 for their first lead of the contest. Kevin Fernandez, in the top of the seventh, doubled to right center, plating CJ Dugan for the insurance run.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, as Evan Ashe's RBI groundout plated Mel Rubiera. In the second, Yeriel Pastrana drove home Gavyn Miller with a double to left center.
Fernandez led all players with three hits followed by two from Jackson. Miller led the Lions with two hits.
Dylan Maire was credited with the win, throwing 4.1 innings, striking out seven and allowing just three hits. Easton Barnett earned his third save of the year, striking out two in 2.0 innings thrown, allowing just one hit.
Jacob Davis threw 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six.
GAME TWO: CU 4, MHU 2
Coker tallied a run apiece in the fourth-seventh innings, eliminating the Lions in Saturday's contest.
After a scoreless first three innings, Colton Penner's sacrifice fly scored Luke Miller for the game's first run. In the fifth, Coker doubled up the Lions off of Matthew Lipscey's RBI single.
Another sacrifice fly in the sixth saw the Cobras jump to a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the sixth. Gavyn Miller's RBI double broke the shutout bid, plating Chapel Matson.
A wild pitch in the seventh allowed Luke Alford to score the Cobras' fourth run of the contest.
In a late comeback bid, Terick Bumgarner's infield single allowed Miller to score. However, the Cobras were able to hold the Lions off.
Alford, Lipcsey, and Gavin Edens led Coker with two hits apiece. Miller led the Lions with two hits.
Cooper Mitchell was credited with the win, striking out seven in 6.0 innings thrown. Casey Cleghorn earned his first save of the year, allowing one run on two hits in 3.0 innings.
