Lions sweep Saturday set, take series over Coker
Mars Hill fell in Friday's single game, but rallied to take both on Saturday to take series in SAC opener.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (3-6, 2-1 SAC) took the three-game series over Coker (1-7, 1-2 SAC) in their South Atlantic Conference opening set this weekend, winning games two and three on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: COKER 3, MHU 2
Mars Hill dropped Friday's series opener, 3-2, versus Coker, allowing all three runs in the second frame.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions mounted a comeback bid with Alejandro Aguilar's two-run double to left, plating Yeriel Pastrana and Peyton Starkey.
Aguilar and Terick Bumgarner led all players with two hits apiece.
A solid relief effort from Patrick Larson earned him the win, allowing three hits in 5.2 innings, striking out four.
GAME TWO: MHU 11, COKER 7
A seven-run seventh inning propelled the Lions to their first win at Henderson Field of the 2026 campaign, erasing a four-run deficit.
Mel Rubiera's RBI single kicked off the scoring in the frame. Both Terick Bumgarner and Peyton Starkey recorded two-run doubles while capping off the scoring was Dawson Anderson with a two-run single to center, picking up his game-high third RBI.
Coker cut the deficit to one in the top of the eighth, but Mars Hill responded with three more runs, highlighted by Yeriel Pastrana's two-run single.
Anderson led all players with three hits and three RBI followed by two hits from Rubiera. The trio of Bumgarner, Pastrana, and Starkey collected two RBI apiece.
Reid Withers picked up the win while Brady Stephens earned his first save of the day.
GAME THREE: MHU 8, COKER 6
The Lions capped off the weekend with a thrilling 8-6 win in game three.
Back-to-back four run innings--the third and fourth--led the Lions to the series win.
Both Carter Potts and Yeriel Pastrana, in the third, drove in two runs apiece to knot the game at four. In the fourth, a trio of RBI doubles from Mel Rubiera, Chapel Matson, and Terick Bumgarner put the Lions up 8-4.
Luke Peterson led all players with four hits and three RBI. Potts led the Lions with two hits and three RBI followed by two hits from Alejandro Aguilar.
Jacob Davis was credited with the win while Brady Stephens picked up his second save on the day.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Friday, February 20 when they face Catawba on the road. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
