MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (10-15-1) defeated King (10-15) by a score of 13-12 in 11 innings Wednesday afternoon at Henderson Field.
The Tornado tied the game at 12 in the top of the eighth. Following scoreless ninth and tenth innings, the Lions came away with the win as Chapel Matson plated Gavyn Miller from second with a single down the right field line.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, Yeriel Pastrana's bases clearing double gave the Lions their first lead of the ball game. In the bottom of the fourth, following a two-run Tornado top half, Evan Ashe's two-run double put the Lions back ahead, 5-4, before Zachary Cimino's two-run home run built the Lions' lead to three.
Trading runs in the fourth and fifth innings, the Tornado jumped back in front after a four-run sixth, highlighted by Adrian Vidal's three-run triple to left.
Vidal led the Tornado with two hits and four RBI.
Both Matson and Ashe led the Lions with two hits apiece while the latter, along with Pastrana, led Mars Hill with three RBI apiece.
The Lions return to the diamond on Friday, March 20 when they host UVA Wise at 2 p.m.
