Lions close out 2025 home slate versus Pioneers
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-7, 1-4 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (1-8, 1-4 SAC) by a score of 71-63 Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions entered the half, down three, 36-33. Tusculum, in both quarters, netted 18 points apiece, led by 10 points from Martina Garofalo.
Mars Hill was led by Stella McIntyre's eight points, as she hit two threes in the half. Cecilee Silver led the team with six rebounds, adding five points. Jadein Haynes led the Lions with two assists in the half.
Tusculum dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 17-10, opening on a 13-0 run. Despite a fiery Lions' effort in the fourth quarter, clutch Pioneers' baskets from Garofalo and Dora Van Rijs clinched their first win of the season.
Makayla Street and Kindan Dawson led the Lions with 11 points apiece while the duo of McIntyre and Shyann McCummings added eight points each. Street led the Lions with eight rebounds while Jadyiah Peoples led the team with three assists.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Saturday, December 20 when they face Lenoir-Rhyne. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
