Lions return to action, open 2026 versus Cavaliers
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-9, 1-6 SAC) was defeated by UVA Wise (8-5, 5-2 SAC) by a score of 85-48 Wednesday night to open the 2026 portion of their schedule.
The Cavaliers shot well from the floor in the first, outscoring the Lions 22-13, shooting nearly 60 percent. Madison Looney, Mia Nienaber, and Caroline Mullins each netted six points apiece. The trio of Makayla Street, Adrianna Gullette, and Shyann McCummings scored four apiece the Lions. UVA Wise put up another 16 in the second quarter, led by Emilea Preece's five points.
Mullins continued to dictate play for the Cavaliers, scoring a quarter-best 10 points in the third. Street led the Lions with four. In the final 10 minutes of play, UVA Wise collected their third 20-point quarter of the contest. Street led the Lions with seven points, hitting the lone three of the game for Mars Hill.
Mullins led all players with 20 points, followed by 13 from Looney. Street led Mars Hill with 17 points while Gullette added 13 off the bench.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, January 10 when they face Wingate on the road. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
