Valiant comeback bid falls short versus Wasps
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-17, 1-14 SAC) was defeated by Emory & Henry (5-16, 3-12 SAC) by a score of 78-65 Wednesday night.
The Wasps jumped out early and often in the first, outscoring Mars Hill 26-9 with Hali Harris and Tori West's six points leading the way.
In the second, Mars Hill responded tenfold. The Lions put up 27 points, hitting 6-of-11 threes with both Jadyiah Peoples and Kindan Dawson hitting two threes apiece. They ended the quarter leading all players with eight points apiece.
Rhyan Harris led the Wasps to a 19-10 third quarter advantage, netting eight points as the team went 8-of-16 from the floor. Capping off the win, they scored 23 points in the fourth, with Harris' nine leading the way.
The Lions battled in the final frame with Felesia Ondongo and Makayla Street each scoring six apiece for the Lions.
Hali Harris led all players with 27 points while Rhyan added 18. Gracyn Hall collected the double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lions had five players net double-digits, led by Ondongo's 14 on the night. Street ended the contest with 12 while the duo of Jadein Haynes and Dawson added 11. Peoples ended the contest with 10 points and a game-high seven assists.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Saturday, February 7 when they face Coker. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
