Mars Hill defeated by Catawba
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (4-12, 1-9 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (7-8, 5-5 SAC) by a score of 75-60 Saturday afternoon.
The Lions led 16-12 after the first 10 minutes of play. Felesia Ondongo and Landyn Stewart led the team with four points apiece while the duo of Kindan Dawson and Shyann McCummings added three aside. Defensively, Makayla Street led the team with four rebounds.
In the second, Catawba rallied to take the lead heading into the half, going on a late 5-0 run. Saniya Wilson led the team with five points in the frame as the Catawba Indians led 29-27 after 20 minutes of play.
Catawba, in the third, netted a game-high 28 points, shooting nearly 56 percent from the floor. Sheree Gidney led all players with nine points.
The Catawba Indians secured the win in the fourth, holding the Lions at bay, scoring 18 points.
Gidney and Makaya Stokes led all players with 17 points while the trio of Kairah Dixon-Booker, Imani Williams, and Amaya Glenn led the team with five rebounds.
For the Lions, Dawson led the team with 14 points, hitting three three-pointers. Ondongo ended the day with 12 points followed by 11 from Adrianna Gullette.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, January 20 when they host Carson-Newman. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
