Men’s Soccer Loses to Catawba in SAC Tourney
MARS HILL, N.C. - The no. 6 seed Catawba Indians defeated the no. 3 seed Mars Hill Lions, 1-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament played in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium on the Mars Hill campus.
The Indians took their season record to 9-8-2 while the Lions, currently ranked no. 25 in the nation by the NSCAA, fell to 11-5-1 on the season.
Danny Sassano broke open a scoreless match at the 57:53 mark when he scored on a breakaway. Ezra Ntirugelegwa assisted the goal.
MHC outshot Catawba, 22-6. The Lions also enjoyed seven more corner kicks (8-1) than the Indians. MHC was called offsides one time.
Catawba will advance to the SAC Tournament semifinals where they will face no. 7 seed Lenoir-Rhyne who beat no. 2 seed Tusculum earlier tonight, 3-0. The semifinals and final rounds will be played at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C., on November 4 and 6, respectively. The men's semifinals on Friday will be played at 3 p.m. and the finals on Sunday will start at 1 p.m.
