No. 17 Men’s Soccer races past Limestone, 4-1
GAFFNEY, S.C. - The 17th-ranked Mars Hill men's soccer team used three second-half goals to defeat Limestone, 4-1, at Saints Field. The Lions, who have outscored their first three opponents 15-2, improve to 3-0 this season and hold a 4-1 advantage in the series with the Saints, who fall to 1-2.
Stephen Bivens got Mars Hill on the board in the 18th minute. He beat Limestone goalkeeper HB Lockwood, and the Lions carried the one-goal upper hand into haltime.
Felipe Ferraro gave Mars Hill a 2-0 lead in the 60th minute. The goal was Ferraro's second of the season.
The Saints' Tom McCready cut the deficit in half in the 70th minute. Calvin Bond found McCready in the box on a cross, and McCready put the ball into the net past Zac Scott.
The Lions answered with two goals in the next three minutes to put the game out of reach. Rury Caulfield scored his third goal of the season in the 71st minute off a free kick from 25 yards out. Bivens scored his second goal of the game and fourth of the season off an assist from Gregg Munn in the 73rd minute.
Scott made four saves for the Lions. Lockwood had three for the Saints. Mars Hill outshot Limestone, 19-16. The Saints had four corners compared to only two for the Lions.
No. 17-ranked Mars Hill hosts Rio Grande on Saturday. Kickoff at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium is set for 2 p.m.
