No. 21 Men’s Soccer upset at Young Harris
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - A successful Young Harris penalty kick in the 21st minute gave the Mountain Lions (4-0) a 1-0 upset victory over No. 21-ranked Mars Hill on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions (3-2) were led offensively by Stephen Bivens. He recorded seven shots, with three of those on goal, in the game.
The only goal in the match came from Andreas Pechmann. After a yellow card was issued against the Lions in the box, he converted a penalty kick past Mars Hill goalkeeper Zac Scott.
Scott made five saves for the Lions. Wezly Barnard recorded six for Young Harris.
The Mountain Lions outshot the Lions, 18-13. Young Harris held an edge in corner kicks, 6-4, and Mars Hill had seven saves compared to only six for the Mountain Lions. The game featured eight yellow cards.
Mars Hill opens South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday against Wingate. Kickoff from the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m.
