Men’s Soccer blanks Brevard, 5-0
Mullen posts first hat trick; Scott records 10th career shutout
BREVARD, N.C. - Mars Hill's Alex Mullen posted his first collegiate hat trick to lead his team to a 5-0 shutout over Brevard at the Brevard College Soccer Field. The Lions (7-2, 4-0) remain undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play with the win over the Tornados (0-9-1, 0-4).
Stephen Bivens scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute. Isaiah Schafer played the ball into Bivens who beat Brevard goalkeeper Jack Shaw.
Mullen scored his first of his three straight goals in the 34th minute. Rury Caulfield assisted on Mullen's first and second goals. On Mullen's second goal in the 49th minute, Caulfield fed the ball into the box off a corner kick. Bivens found Mullen on a through ball in the 55th minute of the match.
Brandon Tardioli added his name to the scoring summary in the 68th minute. Tardioli found a rebound and put the ball into the back of the net. Gregg Munn was given an assist on the play.
Mars Hill goalkeeper Zac Scott recorded three saves and posted his 10th career shutout, which now ranks second only to Sean Merfeld's mark of 10.75 (2007-08). Shaw made five saves.
The Lions outshot the Tornados, 21-10, and held the edge in corner kicks, 4-3. Mars Hill travels to Tusculum on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
