Men’s Soccer blanks North Georgia, 3-0
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill used three second-half goals to defeat North Georgia College and State, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions (9-4) recorded their second straight shutout after defeating the Saints (6-6-1).
Rury Caulfield got Mars Hill on the board for the first time in the 50th minute. After a turnover by North Georgia, Caulfield dribbled the ball in from 20 yards out before beating Saints' goalkeeper Kristopher Alonzo.
The Lions added insurance goals in the 72nd and 88th minutes. Giovanni Malnati fed the ball to Alex Mullen at the 71:30 mark of the match, and Mullen's shot hit the back of the net from 10 yards out. Isaiah Schafer added his name to the scoring summary with a volley from eight yards out off Greg Munn's cross into the box.
Max Angel led the Saints with two shots. Eight other North Georgia players recorded one shot apiece.
Mars Hill's Zac Scott recorded his school-career record 12th shutout and came up with five saves. Alonzo had three saves.
Mars Hill outshot North Georgia, 21-10, and held an edge in corner kicks, 4-3.
The Lions host Carson-Newman on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
